Partners

Help strengthen the community around carers.

Hatch aims to work with government, NGOs, philanthropy and the corporate sector. We're independent, but not adversarial, and we're building the processes and relationships to partner well. What partnership doesn't include is control.

How independence works

Working with Hatch, without controlling it.

Hatch is independently governed: our mission and carers' needs set our direction, not any particular funder or contract. Partners may fund, contract with or collaborate with Hatch, but none of that gives a partner control over the community, editorial say over carer voice, or access to identifiable carer conversations. That arm's-length structure is what lets Hatch work constructively with the system, while remaining trusted by the carers inside it.

Working Together

How we'd approach a partnership.

Working Together is Hatch's practical approach to partnership, advocacy and system improvement. It connects the outcomes we want for carers, evidence about their experience, clear responsibilities and authority, and action developed together.

Shared Vision

Agree the carer outcomes we're aiming for, including wellbeing and availability, to sustain high-quality care.

Produces: agreed outcomes and success measures.

Shared Understanding

Use lived experience as formal evidence alongside other information, and investigate recurring patterns.

Produces: a shared problem definition, evidence gaps and priorities.

Shared Responsibility

Recognise each contribution and clarify roles, responsibilities and decision authority, including how carers participate.

Produces: a partnership agreement on responsibilities, participation and decisions.

Shared Action

Agree what to do together, who will do it and how to learn whether it makes a difference.

Produces: an owned action plan, review points and feedback to carers.

Start with one issue.

A partnership can begin with one defined issue affecting carers rather than whole-system change. For example, where carers repeatedly follow up for support, partners might agree what timely, useful support looks like, examine carers' accounts alongside request records and approval steps, clarify who can authorise support, then test an improved process and review it. This is an illustration only; any real response would come from investigation and co-design.

What Hatch brings: an independent carer community, lived-experience insight and practice knowledge. Partners bring relevant evidence, expertise, resources and the authority to implement change. A proposed partnership would agree its scope, participation arrangements, consent and information protections, resources and review process. Improved outcomes are the aim; they have to be tested through implementation and evidence over time. Working Together is Hatch's own framework, informed by the Collective Impact approach to cross-sector coordination.

Government & sector

Understand carer experience

The NSW out-of-home-care system is being rebuilt in real time, and the carer voice has been named as a missing input. Hatch is independent enough to surface the carer reality safely, and constructive enough to be a partner in the rebuild rather than a critic outside it.

We aim to work with government and sector bodies on understanding what's actually happening for carers, and on the conditions that support sustainable care — alongside existing services and peak bodies, never in their place.

Philanthropy

Build independent infrastructure

Carer wellbeing is the upstream lever in a multi-billion-dollar system. When carers stay, placements stabilise. Philanthropic support helps fund the platform, the community team, and the research that keeps Hatch independently governed — able to work with government and the sector without ever handing them control of the community.

Corporate partners

Support practical initiatives

Corporate partners help fund practical resources and research that improve the everyday experience of NSW foster and kinship carers — support that aligns with values like family wellbeing and community resilience, delivered through a genuine, structured partnership rather than a one-off sponsorship.
