Marcie world foster day.jpg

Marcie has dedicated her career to making a difference to the lives of Australia's most disadvantaged children. She's a passionate social justice advocate who isn't afraid to ask the hard questions or get stuck into messy problems. Drawing on 20 years experience working in foster care, Marcie is no stranger to navigating complex systemic dynamics, and believes positive and productive working relationships are key to addressing the sector's most pressing needs.

"Co-founding and leading Hatch Carers has been my most challenging and rewarding professional experience to date. Working amid the quagmire of systemic problems requires a level of perseverance that humbles me daily. Thankfully, it’s not a solo effort—leading this initiative is made possible by the dedication and expertise of the team around me."
Marcie holds qualifications in Psychology and Social Impact. She has worked for both large and small OOHC NGOs in various casework and management roles during her 15-year tenure in the NSW OOHC sector.

My past 25 years have been quite a journey, filled with challenges, excitement and diverse experiences. I've transitioned from managing and performing music in Sydney to spending 15 years in software engineering and leadership. This path led me to build Waddle, which was sold as a best-in-class Fintech company to Xero.

At the Reserve Bank of Australia, I gained early exposure to software and economics while tackling the challenge of modernising bulky and outdated banking systems. At Tyro, I experienced top-tier engineering practices that support rapid changes in a secure environment. Co-founding Waddle allowed me to learn every aspect of running a business, including software that was eventually adopted by major banks globally. On any one given day I might have attended a marketing strategy meeting; lead a UX designer interview; facilitated an architectural retrospective with the senior engineering team, and hopefully ended the day writing some code myself. I also had to navigate the complexities of large contracts and acquisitions, while ensuring our software practices met the rigorous standards required by banks and technology. I consider myself fortunate to have engaged with nearly every aspect of running a company, learned countless lessons, and witnessed many experiments come to fruition.

Director

Malika is a CPA qualified, purpose driven professional with over 25 years of experience in client facing, commercial and strategic executive leadership roles, across a broad range of industries
including SaaS &Technology, Financial Services and Professional Services. She has excelled in tax advisory, tax and accounting compliance, people leadership, business transformation, technology implementation, go-to-market strategy and customer growth and retention.
As one of Australia's earliest overseas adoptees, Malika staunchly advocates for foster care and child
adoption, drawing on her personal adoption experience to inspire positive change.

My wife and I have been carers for a long time (23 years) with a full provision of care types and I have provided personal advocacy for carers across the state for 20 years. That advocacy experience wears many caps - sometimes you are the knowledge expert, sometimes you are the counsellor, the consultant, the writer and the voice of the carer so that both the carer and their children in care are afforded the opportunities they are entitled to have.
This experience together with my many tertiary qualifications places me in a unique position to assist other carers and hence why I’ve joined Hatch Carers - an equally unique group of experienced carers and professionals with  similar ethos.
Kids and their carers are my Raison d’être.
